Two men have been arrested by detectives investigating the killing of a man in a restaurant in Belfast.

The victim was David Finn, 32, from Forthriver Parade in the city.

Mr Finn was attacked at about 1615 GMT on Friday, in a branch at Donegall Place, in the city centre.

It is understood the victim, a customer in the restaurant, suffered from at least one stab wound.

He was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

The restaurant was packed with customers when the victim was attacked.

Following the stabbing, the police in Belfast began a murder investigation.

Acting detective superintendent Gary Stewart said police had not established a motive for the stabbing.

"It seems like just another senseless attack, another senseless display of violence," he said.

The restaurant was cordoned off as police searched the area and the streets surrounding the fast food outlet.

Over the Christmas and New Year period, there were a number of fatal stabbings in Northern Ireland.

It prompted politicians to express concern about a growing knife culture in the province.

Superintendent Stewart said: "There seems to be an increasing number of these type of incidents.

"We certainly are concerned about their prevalence, at this point in time."

Meanwhile, detectives are asking anyone with information about this latest incident to contact them at an incident room at Musgrave Street in Belfast.

The number to phone is 029 90 650222.
