Radiohead are your Brits choice

Radiohead should have won the best British group trophy at Monday night's Brit Awards, according to a poll of BBC News Online users.

Over 4,200 votes were received after voting opened on Thursday evening, and when polling closed at 1600 GMT on Monday, the Oxford-based five piece had a commanding lead, taking 48.7% of votes.

Their Brits nomination recognises a satisfying comeback for the band, whose unconventional fourth album Kid A was released to critical praise last year.

Coming in second place were newcomers Coldplay, whose debut album Parachutes made them a force to be reckoned with in British music. They took 24.3% of the votes - and the real Brit award on Monday night.

Just a handful of votes separated the other three acts on the shortlist, who took nine per cent each.

Toploader came in third, three votes ahead of All Saints, who announced they were putting their career as a group "on hold" after a series of rows.

Two votes behind All Saints - thanks to a late surge of support for the doomed girl group - are Sheffield duo Moloko.

Final results: Radiohead 2,047 votes (48.7%), Coldplay 1,024 votes (24.3%), Toploader 381 votes (9%), All Saints 378 votes (9%), Moloko 376 votes (9%).

Moloko

Singer Roisin Murphy and producer Mark Brydon are also in the running for best British single with their hit The Time Is Now. The track features on Things To Make And Do which peaked at number three in the album charts.

Coldplay

Newcomers Coldplay formed in 1998 while at university. The quartet's nomination for best group follows the success of their number one, double platinum album Parachutes.

All Saints

The All Saints already own a couple of Brit Awards but this is their first nomination for best group. They are widely tipped to split, after a successful year in the charts with a number one album and two number one singles.

Toploader

Eastbourne export Toploader are Brit Award newcomers. Their debut album, Onka's Big Moka peaked at number five in the charts and features the top 20 hits Dancing in the Moonlight and Achilles Heel.

Radiohead

This is the fifth time the Oxford five-piece have received a Brit nomination. Kid A, the band's fourth LP won best alternative album at the Grammys after topping the charts in America and the UK.
