New flood peril in Mozambique

The president of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, is due to visit central parts of the country which have been affected by devastating floods.

More than forty people have been killed and hundreds of thousands affected by the rising flood waters caused by heavy rain across southern Africa.

One of the worst affected areas is the Zambezi Valley, where several rivers have burst their banks; people there have been warned to move to higher ground.

Mozambique has appealed for international support to help it deal with the crisis, including aircraft for rescue missions and to ferry supplies.
