Cuban-Americans stage protest against Havana

United States-based Cuban exiles have protested against Cuba's food rationing by launching fireworks from a boat just outside Cuban waters.

A US Coast Guard officer Jim Malcolm said the Cuban-Americans, from the group Democracy Movement, returned to Florida after the display, which lasted for about one hour.

The Cuban coast guard didn't interfere.

The protest was planned for Wednesday evening, but ran into problems when one of the boats taking part broke down and had to be towed back to Miami.

A second boat went ahead and launched the fireworks early Thursday.
