Clinton's brother-in-law 'received pay off'

Bill Clinton's brother-in-law received about $200,000 after successfully lobbying for a pardon and a prison commutation that the former president granted on his last day in office.

In a statement, the Clintons said they were unaware of the arrangements with Hillary Clinton's brother Hugh Rodham.

They said they had asked him to return the money and were "deeply dismayed" by what had happened.

Mr Rodham reportedly received the payment for months of work in securing a prison commutation request for Carlos Vignali and a pardon for Almon Glenn Braswell.

The money has been returned, reportedly within the past 24 hours.
