Colombia: 30 dead in clashes
Reports from Colombia say that at least thirty people have been killed in clashes between left-wing guerrilla and right-wing paramilitary groups in the north-western state of Antioquia. A spokesman for the regional authorities, Alberto Atehortua, said they had no information as yet to which group the dead belonged, but he said officials were making their way to the remote site, to the north of the state, where the clashes are thought to have begun on Monday. Correspondents say if the numbers are confirmed, this could be one of the worst incidents in Colombia's conflict in recent times. removing FARC from first line, on section advice - new interview says not sure which left-wing group From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
