Mother charged with neglect
![]() Strathclyde Police said a woman was arrested
A woman who allegedly left her two young sons alone at home while she went to work has been charged with neglect.
Neighbours were understood to have contacted Strathclyde Police to say that they had seen a two-year-old boy hanging out of a window at the house in North Ayrshire. Social workers took the toddler and his seven-month-old brother away from the house. It was alleged that the two boys had been left for four hours with only the family's three dogs for company.
Officers were followed by council workers, who gained access to the house. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was later arrested on suspicion of child neglect. A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: "A 25-year-old woman has been arrested following an alleged contravention of the Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Act (1937). "A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal." A spokeswoman for North Ayrshire Council added: "Our social services have received allegations from the police and we are conducting enquiries."
