In pictures: Kurds find their land-legs
More than 900 Kurdish migrants stranded on the southern French coast have been given papers granting them temporary freedom in France.
![]() "Safe conduct" promises the permit, but this man will have to prepare his asylum claim within the next week.
![]() The permits allow the Kurds to leave the camp, though many have chosen to stay.
![]() Danielle Mitterrand, widow of the former president and a campaigner for Kurdish rights visited the camp.
![]() Over half of those washed ashore in France are children.
![]() Women wash their clothes at the camp - they suffered in squalid conditions in the ship from Turkey.
