Azeri veterans in new clashes
There've been new violent incidents in the Azeri capital, Baku, between police and disabled veterans of the war with Armenia, who are seeking higher pensions. Officials said about twenty veterans and relatives were arrested after an attempt to break through police lines to get to a group of their comrades who are on hunger strike. War veterans in Azerbaijan at present get a pension equivalent to twenty-five dollars a month. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
