Pretoria railway station gutted by fire

Reports from South Africa say thousands of commuters have been stranded in Pretoria following a fire at the central railway station.

Police say the building was set alight on Monday night, by passengers angry at cancelled trains.

Witnesses said passengers attacked employees and security guards at the station.

Railway officials estimate damage from the fire at six-and-a-half million dollars. More than one hundred police and soldiers were deployed around the station to prevent disturbances during this morning's rush-hour.
