Daewoo workers battle with SKorea police
Hundreds of angry workers and trade unionists have battled riot police for a second day at the main Daewoo Motor company plant in South Korea. They are protesting against lay offs announced by the company as part of its restructuring plan. Protestors hurled petrol bombs and burned two empty police buses. Union officials say they will hold more protests until police release eighty workers detained on Monday. Daewoo, South Korea's third largest car firm, filed for bankruptcy in November and has already shed a third of its domestic work force. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
