Belgrade plans truth commission

The new Yugoslav authorities in Belgrade have announced plans to set up a South African-style truth and reconciliation commission.

The Justice Minister, Momcilo Grubac, said plans were being drawn up for the commission to take evidence about the Kosovo conflict and the earlier wars in the former Yugoslavia.

An amnesty would be given to those accused of crimes against the state so they could give evidence -- although he said it wouldn't include terrorists.

There would also be a joint forum with representatives from Croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina as well as Yugoslavia, to review the reconciliation process.
