A man has been killed by a high-speed train.

He was struck by the 1205 Gatwick Express en route from the airport in West Sussex to London's Victoria Station.

The incident happened near Purley station, in Surrey, at 1225GMT.

British Transport Police duty inspector Philip Trendall told BBC News Online: "We don't think there is anything suspicious about the incident. We are now trying to confirm the identity and contact the next-of-kin.

He added: "We have spoken to several witnesses who are traumatised by the incident."

Gatwick Express services are now back to normal, after reducing its service from every 15 minutes to every half hour until 1500GMT.
