Holocaust compensation talks in Vienna

Talks on paying compensation for the Nazi regime's victims in Austria are due to resume in Vienna later today .

The Austrian government has offered one-hundred-and-fifty-million dollars to the mainly Jewish people whose property was confiscated by the Nazis before the Second World War.

The authorities are also proposing that private companies contribute a similar sum.

With the United States involved in the talks, the parties are hoping to reach an agreement before the end of President Clinton's term of office.

But so far representatives of the victims have rejected the Austrian offer as insufficient.
