James Bond to work for UN

sThe actor who plays James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, has had a series of meetings at the United Nations to discuss what he could do for the organisation.

The secretary-general, Kofi Annan, said celebrities like Mr Brosnan could be very effective advocates for the UN.

Mr Annan pointed to other actors such as Michael Douglas, who has been active in promoting the cause of disarmament.

The fictional hero, James Bond, has a licence to kill but Mr Brosnan says he personally wants a licence to protect the environment, help children in crisis and eliminate nuclear weapons. A spokesman for Mr Brosnan said he'd been inspired by his meetings at the UN, but wouldn't be talking in detail until he decides exactly which cause he wants to adopt.
