Vodafone enters Latin American market

The British-based mobile phone company, Vodafone, has announced that it is buying into the phone market in Latin America, starting in Mexico.

It's acquired a thirty-four point five per cent stake in Iusacell, Mexico's second largest mobile phone operator.

The deal puts Vodafone into partnership with the American company Verizon Communications, which owns thirty-seven per cent of Iusacell.

William Keever, president of Vodafone's Americas and Asia division, said that given the modest uptake of mobile phones in Mexico so far, Iusacell represented an extraordinary growth opportunity.
