The police in Northern Ireland are questioning a man about the murder of a 20-year-old man in west Belfast.
The body of Martin Crozier was discovered just after 0300GMT on Sunday at Creeslough Park, Lenadoon. He had been stabbed. Follow up searches were carried out to try to establish where and how he was killed. The police said a man was arrested on Monday morning and is being questioned at Woodbourne Police Station. Earlier, they appealed for information about a disturbance at high rise flats in the Lenadoon area on Sunday morning. Detectives want to speak to anyone involved in the altercation at the junction of Lenadoon Avenue and Glenveigh Drive between 0230 and 0300 GMT. Silver car They have traced a taxi driver who brought Mr Crozier to the area shortly before he was killed. Mr Crozier, who was from Old Colin in Poleglass, had been seen getting into a taxi near Caffreys bar on the Falls Road in the early hours of Sunday morning. The police said three women were with him when he got into the vehicle. They also want to speak to the driver and passengers of a silver coloured car seen in the area at the time. 'Knife culture' Mr Crozier is the eighth person to have been stabbed to death in Northern Ireland in a series of unrelated attacks since Christmas Eve.
He said: "The family can not believe what has happened to their son. "But in the wider community there is a growing concern about what seems to be the emergence of a knife culture. There have been eight such attacks since Christmas and this is a very worrying development." However the police have said there is no evidence to suggest the growth of a knife culture in Northern Ireland. The RUC said the majority of the killings have been domestic in nature. |
