Explosions rock Tehran

Several explosions have rocked a northern, residential district of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

State radio said there had been five blasts near Mellat Park, close to a busy road.

There have been no details so far of any casualties.

The outlawed Mujahideen Khalq Organisation rebels told Reuters in Dubai that it had mounted a mortar attack on the general command of the state security forces and the headquarters of their commander, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

These are situated close to the park where the blasts were heard.

The Mujahideen Khalq has carried out a number of assassinations and rocket attacks on Iranian cities in its campaign to overthrow the Islamic Republic.
