Azerbaijan: Quake hits as aid arrives
Russia has handed over its first major shipment of aid for victims of the earthquake which struck Azerbaijan last November. A plane carrying mainly food and building materials landed at the Azeri capital, Baku, to help the country recover from the strong tremor 6.5 on the Richter scale, which damaged hundreds of buildings in the city. Within a few hours of the arrival of the plane, Baku suffered another earthquake. The authorities say today's tremor was of a lower magnitude less than 4.5 -- there are not reports of serious injury or damage. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
