Indian PM meets Chinese leader
The Indian Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, has held talks with the senior Chinese leader, Li Peng - who's visiting India --on normalising relations after a rift caused by India's nuclear tests in 1998.
The two leaders were expected to discuss ways of solving their long-standing border dispute, which led to a brief war between the two countries in 1962. On Sunday, Mr Vajpayee said talks by a joint working group were set to start, which he hoped would lead to a satisfactory solution. But Mr Li said that the two countries still lacked mutual understanding. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
