Former teacher charged with abduction
A former school teacher who spent a year abroad with one of his pupils has been charged with two counts of child abduction.
Paul Tramontini, 33, disappeared with the girl, who is now 16, on 26 April last year. The pair, who have been living together in Italy for the past 12 months, walked into a Portsmouth police station on Friday. Divorcee Tramontini, who began his relationship with the girl when she was 14, is due to appear at Portsmouth magistrates court on Tuesday.
Two in court over shooting Two men have appeared in court charged with murdering a 39-year-old man who was shot in the doorway of his home. Edward Grant and Ram Labaya Chand, who are accused of killing Ian Dowling, were both remanded in custody at Grantham Magistrates Court, Lincolnshire Police said. Mr Dowling, a road maintenance worker from Grantham, died in hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to the chest in the incident on 15 March. Mr Grant, a 38-year-old concrete finisher from Grantham, and Mr Chand, 36, from Handsworth, Birmingham, are both charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Both defendants were remanded to appear at Lincoln Crown Court on 22 June, a police spokesman said.
Woman dies after stabbing Police have named a 56-year-old woman who was found stabbed to death at her flat. West Midlands Police said the body of Kathleen Mulqueen was discovered at her home in Ridgethorpe, Willenhall, Coventry, at 0600BST on Friday. A post-mortem established the cause of death as stab wounds, the spokesman added. A local man is helping officers with their inquiries into the incident, which is being treated as murder.
Police sprayed with CS gas Two police officers have been injured after they were sprayed with CS gas during a pub fight. Pc Greg Thompson and Pc Matt Usher were attacked as they responded to a 999 call at the New Market Arms pub in Bear Road, Brighton, at 2125BST on Friday. Pc Usher is suffering with vision difficulties while Pc Thompson has breathing problems. Both were treated at Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital. Three men arrested at the scene are helping police with their inquiries.
