Police family shot in Chechnya

The authorities in Chechnya say two policemen -- a father and son -- have been shot dead.

They say they were killed by unidentified gunmen who broke into their house overnight in the city of Gudermes.

A Russian news agency Itar-Tass has quoted the head of the Chechen administration, Akhmat Kadyrov, as saying that the murders could not have been committed without the indifference of the policemen's neighbours.

He said it would have been impossible for the gunmen to have arrived and left without being seen.
