Man admits double murder
generic scales of justice
Cook changed his plea to guilty
A man is facing life in jail for the double murder of his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

Adrian Cook, 38, admitted killing Rachel Kelly - the mother of their two-year-old son - and her new partner Mark Maunder.

Ms Kelly, 26, was found dead at her home in Rhiwbina, Cardiff, as her toddler son Ben lay in his cot nearby.

Mr Maunder, 29, died 15 hours later in hospital. They had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Changed plea

Cook changed his plea from not guilty to admit the murders at Cardiff Crown Court.

Police were called to Ms Kelly's home after neighbours reported hearing a violent row in March last year.

They found Ms Kelly dead in the lounge.

Mr Maunder had collapsed outside the house as he tried to go for help.

Police arrived and forced their way into the flat to find Cook with a knife.

Jobless handyman Cook, from Rhydfelin in Pontypridd, was arrested at the scene.

He was remanded in custody until next Thursday for sentencing by Judge Roderick Evans QC.

Ms Kelly's son Ben is being cared for by her parents.
