	One of the biggest tests for the Russian president Vladimir Putin this year will be how he handles increasing opposition from the independent press. So far the Russian authorities have been acting tough. The media magnate Vladimir Gusinsky has been prosecuted amidst rumours that the Kremlin has plans to shut down his television station.
