Philippine police identify bombers
Police in the Philippines say they have identified the group responsible for a series of deadly bombs placed in Manila last Saturday. The country's police chief General Panfilo Lacson blamed the attacks, which killed more than twenty people, on Muslim separatists from the southern island of Mindanao. He said the police were pursuing their investigations, entirely separate from the army, which arrested eighteen suspects in dawn raids on Thursday. The army has since released fourteen of the people it held but says it is investigating the remaining four on suspicion of possessing illegal weapons and drugs.
