Pakistanis hang Indian man as spy

Pakistani officials say an Indian national, convicted on spying charges, has been executed by hanging.

They said the man, Bilbir Singh, was hanged after the rejection of appeals to a special military court and to the Pakistani President, Rafiq Tarar.

The officials said Mr Singh was arrested seven years ago, but gave no details of his background, nor the exact charges against him.

Correspondents say India and Pakistan frequently accuse each other of acts of spying or sabotage, and are known to hold dozens of each others' nationals on spying charges -- but an execution on such charges appears to be unprecedented.
