Indian security forces killed in gunbattle with Naga militants

Indian police say two members of the security forces have been killed in a gunfight with Naga militants in the north-eastern state of Manipur.

The police say the security forces were trying to break up a road blockade in which militants from the United Naga Council have stopped more than two hundred trucks at the Manipur/Nagaland border.

The BBC North East India correspondent says the prices of essential commodities in Manipur have been rising sharply as a result of the blockade.

The Nagas are protesting against the creation of a new district in Manipur dominated by people from the rival Kuki tribe.
