Monday, June 15, 1998 Published at 08:41 GMT 09:41 UK Sport: Football No going back for home nations ![]() Suits you: The England squad in designer labels England and Scotland are on their way to the World Cup. Both squads are now in France. Scotland have moved to Paris from their base in St Remy de Provence, ahead of Wednesday's opening match with Brazil. But there will be no time for the squad to check out the sights of the capital - the first task for the players will be another taxing training session, this time in the Stade de France, the venue for the Group A match.
"We had an excellent base in Italy in 1990 and I think this one's comparable," he said. England meanwhile have also left the country for their training camp in La Baule, north-west France. The players, dressed in official Paul Smith suits, were cheered by about 150 airport workers as they boarded a special British Airways 737, painted with a red rose on the tail fin and "England" at the end of the fuselage. The Football Association had asked British Airways to stock tea, coffee, orange juice and still water for the flight, but no food and certainly no alcohol. Before boarding the plane, coach Glenn Hoddle dismissed injury fears surrounding goalkeeper David Seaman, who had earlier been seen with strapping on his left leg. Hoddle said the Arsenal player would be fit for the showdown with Tunisia next Monday. The team are due to take part in a warm-up match with French side Caen in Normandy on Tuesday evening as a dress rehearsal for Monday's opener in Marseilles. They are then due to move on to their training headquarters at La Baule. |
