Scots facing lock-out after mix-up

Fans may be stuck outside 'Le Stade' come matchday

Hundreds of Scotland fans could face being shut out of their team's World Cup showdown with Brazil on Wednesday, following a mix-up over tickets.

Several Scottish travel agents are trying to contact supporters to tell them the tickets they have already paid for do not actually exist.

Reports in the national press say that a US company thought to be responsible for supplying the tickets has not delivered them - leaving fans with no way of getting into the Stade de France for the big game.

One of the companies involved is Glasgow-based travel agent Kelvin Travel. No-one was available for comment at the firm on Tuesday, but a staff member said senior officials were flying out to France to try to deal with the problem.

Worried fans arriving at the Kelvin Travel headquarters were told there was still hope of getting hold of World Cup tickets.

Scotland follower Jim Dixon from Montrose, who paid £640 for a package deal, said staff at the branch told him the firm had set up an office in Paris to try to buy more tickets.

"They've offered us cash back over the counter at the moment, but it's looking a bit rosier as far as the tickets go," Mr Dixon said.

"We've decided to go out anyway, and the company will give us more details at the hotel in Paris where we're staying. This is a dream for us and we're going to enjoy it."

Mr Dixon said he did not blame Kelvin Travel for the mix-up, adding that the company had handled the situation as best it could.
