The authorities in Guatemala say they now have a second suspect in the murder in April of the leading human rights campaigner, Bishop Juan Jose Gerardi.

They said that, for the moment, the man was being held on drugs charges.

Church and human rights leaders have already called for the first suspect to be released, saying they believe he is the wrong man.

Bishop Gerardi was murdered after presenting a report blaming the army for many of the atrocities during Gutemala's civil war.
