Text of the Woodward trustees' statement

The full statement issued by the Chairman of the trustees of the Louise Woodward Appeal Fund, the Rev Ken Davey, after their emergency meeting, read:

"The Louise Woodward and Family Trust Fund was set up on 7 December 1997 following substantial donations from well-wishers to support Louise Woodward and her family during the trial, the subsequent appeal process and thereafter.

"The Trust Deed expressly defines the beneficiaries as Louise, her mother Susan, her father Gary and any other relatives or dependants as the trustees may determine.

"Any payments to these beneficiaries therefore come within the objectives for which the trust fund was established.

"The trustees have, since commencement of their administration of the fund, considered that Sue and Gary Woodward have always acted in an honest and straightforward manner.

"The recent allegations from America, strenuously denied by Mrs Woodward, do not lead the trustees to alter this opinion.

"At a meeting this morning the unanimous decision of the trustees was to continue to support Louise and her family.

"There will be no further comment on this matter."
