Iran Paper Closed

A liberal newspaper in Iran has suspended publication, after the authorities charged it with violating rules on ethics.

The paper, Gozaresh-e Ruz Daily Report is only a few weeks old but has already won a name for controversy.

It published an article on religious leaders banking money outside Iran, and -- in another item -- printed a picture of a teenage boy and girl with the caption "Friendship under Fear".

The managing editor, Mohammed Mahdavi Khorrami, said he'd suspended publication voluntarily, until a verdict was reached.

On Tuesday, a tribunal in Iran found the managing editor of another liberal newspaper, Jameah, guilty of publishing insults and lies.
