President Yeltsin has arrived in Germany for two days of talks with Chancellor Kohl which are expected to focus on Russia's efforts to recover from its recent economic crisis.
His visit follows a period of turbulence on Russian financial markets which forced the central bank to treble interest rates.
Germany is the biggest foreign investor in Russia and the BBC correspondent in Bonn -- where the talks are taking place -- says Mr Yeltsin is expected to seek the Chancellor's help in securing new credits from western nations.
Correspondents say the two leaders are also likely to discuss the situation in the troubled Serbian province of Kosovo.
