Thunderstorms hit Argentina, Uruguay

People in central Argentina and neighbouring Uruguay are clearing up after powerful thunderstorms and winds overnight damaged trees, broke roofs and felled electricity pylons.

Two people were killed and several injured as high winds and heavy rains swept across the region.

In Rosario, some two-hundred-and-eighty kilometres north of Buenos Aires, a circus tent collapsed on around three-hundred people.

Correspondents say thunderstorms are reported to be unusually heavy for the South American summer.
