Man 'critically ill' after shooting

A man is critically ill in hospital after being shot at his home in County Louth in the Republic of Ireland.

He was shot by two men who broke into his home in the Avenue Road area of Dundalk at about 1930 GMT on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old victim was hit in the chest and abdomen.

He was taken to Louth County hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

It is understood one theory the Gardai are working on is that the incident may be linked to the Irish National Liberation Army.
