Women jailed in Algeria


A court in Algeria has handed down jail sentences to three women found guilty of being involved in terrorism -- a term used by the authorities to describe Muslim militants.

The court, in Blida, near the capital, Algiers, sentenced one woman to the maximum of twelve years; the other two were sentenced to three years.

Two other women were acquitted.

No further details were disclosed.
