A 35-year-old man has died after a road accident in County Down.

His Toyota Corolla was in collision with a Peugeot 106 on the Ballagh Road in Newcastle at about 2330 GMT on Monday.

Two people from the Peugeot were taken to hospital with what were described as "serious injuries".

The police have appealed for witnesses to the accident to contact them.

Meanwhile, the police said three people have died in road accidents in south Down over the Christmas period.
