Suspects held over Chinese disco fire
The Chinese authorities call for improved safety in public buildings after 309 people die in a fire in a shopping complex fire in a dimly-lit dance hall on the fourth floor. The fire swept through the building in the city of Luoyang, trapping revellers at a Christmas night disco. Local television news said the fire was caused by carelessness during renovation work. The official Chinese newsagency, Xinhua, said the whole building had been declared a safety hazard just a week ago. The BBC's John McIntyre reports.
