More trouble in Casamance

Military officials in Senegal say five people have been killed by a landmine to the north of the capital of the Casamance region, Ziguinchor.

The incident is said to be the worst since the government and separatist rebels in Casamance began peace talks in mid-December.

In a separate incident, a soldier was killed in Ziguinchor after an exchange of fire with gunmen robbing cars.

A spokesman for the rebel Casamance Movement of Democratic Forces blamed both attacks on bandits
