Explosion kills six in Kashmir

A bomb explosion near an army headquarters in Indian-administered Kashmir has left at least nine people dead.

Soldiers and civilians were among the casualties -- as well as a man described by the authorities as a suicide bomber.

He's said to have driven a car packed with explosives up to the main gates of the army headquarters in Srinagar and detonated it.

More than twenty other people were injured.

The attack comes as the Indian government is maintaining a unilateral ceasefire, announced during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and extended for another four weeks.

There's no firm word on who was behind the attack but it's thought it could have been the work of hardline separatist groups who've rejected the ceasefire. Three days earlier, Kashmiri militants also attacked the historic Red Fort in Delhi.
