China punishes police officers

Reports from China say seventy-six police officers in Hainan province have been punished as part of an anti-corruption campaign.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua says the deputy police chief was among those punished, after being convicted of perjury in a homicide case.

The agency said another officer was caught trying to flee with nearly seventy-five thousand dollars of stolen public money.

Most of the officers were not charged, but faced disciplinary action.
