Christmas partial eclipse of the sun

A partial eclipse will be visible in North America today, with seventy percent of the sun covered by the moon in part of Canada's Arctic region.

The eclipse will be visible from midday local time in the eastern United States and just after dawn in the west.

Astronomers are recommending that special glasses are used to prevent eye damage when viewing the phenomenon.
