'World's longest cooking gas pipeline' inaugurated

The Gas Authority of India says it has inaugurated what it's calling the world's longest cooking gas pipeline.

The twelve-hundred kilometre pipeline links India's west coast with the north of the country, going through five states.

And officials say it will transport more than five hundred thousand cylinders of gas every day.

It was opened by the Petroleum Minister, Ram Naik, in the city of Ajmer in the western state of Rajasthan. The pipeline will be used to transport cooking gas from a refinery in Jamnagar in the state of Gujarat to Loni in Uttar Pradesh.
