Czech TV row deepens

A dispute has widened at the Czech state television service, over alleged political influence in new appointments.

Journalists working there say they won't accept the appointment as news director of Jana Bobosikova, a former television journalist, who recently worked as an adviser to the opposition leader and current chairman of parliament, Vaclav Klaus.

The journalists have already rejected the choice as managing director of a former BBC journalist Jiri Hodac, saying it was aimed at increasing political influence over Czech Television.

The Television Council, which selected Mr Hodac, is controlled by members nominated by the governing Social Democrats and the Civic Democrats, who have a power-sharing agreement.
