MOTOR RACING: The former world champion, Michael Schumacher, driving a Ferrari, has won the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

Giancarlo Fisichella, in a Benetton was second and Eddie Irvine, in another Ferrari, was third.

The twoMcLarens, which have dominated the season so far, both failed to finish.

Mika Hakkinen was forced out on the first lap when his transmission failed, and David Coulthard also retired.

The race had to be restarted after a multiple crash on the first lap, and was then disrupted again by another first lap pile-up.
