Report on police rape claims

An official inquiry in Ivory Coast has found no evidence to support allegations that women detainees were raped at the police academy in Abidjan.

But the report, which was ordered by President Laurent Gbagbo, acknowledged that some members of the security forces may have been implicated in the rape of the women before they arrived at the academy.

The women were among more than three-hundred people detained earlier this month during protests by supporters of the former prime minister, Alassane Ouattara.

They were angry that he'd been barred from standing in presidential and parliamentary elections.
