Ugandan "rebels" attack police station
Police in Uganda say gunmen claiming to be from the rebel National Democratic Alliance have attacked a police station in the central district of Luwero. A police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said a policewoman who tried to return fire was overpowered and shot in the leg. The spokesman said the attackers fled with a number of assault rifles. He said one suspect had since been arrested. Correspondents say the National Democratic Alliance has not been active since the mid-1990s, when it was crushed by the Ugandan army and its leader, Major Herbert Kikomeko Itongwa, was forced into exile abroad.
