Three arrests after raid
Dumfries and Galloway
Officers chased the men across fields
Police in Dumfries have arrested three men after a hold-up at a village post office.

The incident took place in Kirkton at about 1000GMT on Saturday.

Masked robbers threatened staff forcing them to hand over cash before making their escape.

Officers caught up with the suspects after chasing them on foot across fields near the Locharbriggs housing estate.

It is the latest in a series of raids on shops and post offices on the outskirts of Dumfries.

Swift response

Police said criminals may be targetting outlying areas because of the installation of CCTV in the town centre.

A Dumfries and Galloway Police spokesman said: "The raid took place around 10am when the shop and post office was robbed by three masked men who threatened staff.

"However, a swift response by the local police at Locharbriggs resulted in the arrest of three suspects as they fled on foot across fields which lead to the housing estate at Locharbriggs."

It is expected that the three will appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
