Algerian pilot seeks asylum in Ibiza

Spanish officials are considering a request for political asylum from an Algerian helicopter pilot, who suddenly flew off across the Mediterranean after slipping away from military manoeuvres.

Reports say the pilot landed first on the Spanish island of Formentera, before going on to neighbouring Ibiza.

He's now being held for questioning while his case is reviewed by the Ministry of the Interior.

The helicopter will be returned to Algeria.
