An 11-year-old girl is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery for serious facial wounds she received when she was bitten by a dog.
Police said the girl was attacked as she was walking down the street in her home town of Methil, in Fife, on Friday. She was taken to the Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, suffering from serious facial injuries and was detained in hospital. Fife Police said the dog appeared to have been unaccompanied. The animal is described as being a black cross collie type with a white patch on its chest. They urged anyone who may have witnessed the attack, which happened at about 0900GMT on Friday, to get in touch. They also appealed for anyone who may have knowledge of the dog to contact them.
